I'm not.
Tow truck ETA is 45 minutes. Plenty of time to look at new cars.

whats wrong with it?

The badge. Every time a car get a VW badge it starts the countdown clock for shit to break.

I think it's a throttle body issue again.

I used to be an enormous VW brand loyalist - until I turned 17 and the Mk 3's were out. There was no way I could stand behind them much after that. At least on the mk1 and 2's and affiliated they were easy to fix

"Isn't It Time for German Engineering?"
No.

it's not a flaw! that's a design feature! it's the VW version of social media. See they worry about their techs being lonely so they build in networking features to bring customers in to socialize with their sales staff and techs! Your car doesn't break, it merely presents and opportunity to socialize with the wonderful folk down at the local vw dealership!

I'm considering a GTI, from my own experience they are fine mechanically. is the Throttle body a common issue?

Hmm... I never had any issues when I had VW's they were Polo's though.

Maybe the new Focus RS?
![]() 04/14/2015 at 11:21 |

Yeah. There is a TSB for them. VW won't replace them until they fail and leave you stranded. This will be my second one on my second engine:(

Oh wow, all the UK publications say little goes wrong with them, but two engines......
There was a buying guide in this months Evo for a Renault Megane RS225 that might be better.

The engine is not air cooled and in the back, that's your problem.

I always hear really conflicting things avout VW. A lot of british people swear by them but they seem to have a bad reputation in the US.

I'd like to think mine is the exception. I had a Rabbit prior to this with zero issues and know of a few horribly neglected ones near me that never break somehow.

I couldn't do something brand new right now. I might just go something basic and practical this time if I do trade it.

Ever since they started putting radiators in the damn things.

I think generally they are okay. Mine just likes to reinforce the stereotype.

Maybe something that doesn't say VW on the front...

I'm thinking Toyota or Hyundai.

Well, compared to British cars, they're perfectly reliable.
![]() 04/14/2015 at 11:45 |

Considering our biggest output now is Nissans, british produced cars are pretty reliable. They havent let us build too much unreliable rubbish since MG Rover went under.

I'm not saying VW is a bad car, but I see various VW's broken down on the side of the highway almost every day on my commute...judge for yourself.

Well, I'm surprised... MkV's are super solid...
Have you been beating on it too hard????

Acura TL/TSX/RSX?

Don't feel too bad. My MK4 Jetta 1.8T just started having significant idle issues. I'm surprised it took this long (164,XXX).
